Regenerative Coffee
Share
Hey Coffee Enthusiast!
We appreciate the opportunity given to share the details of our exciting new project about Regenerative Agriculture in Costa Rica. We are a group of women, passionate about sustainability, and regenerative agriculture; Gally Mayer from Buena Vida Specialty Coffee, Vanessa Rojas from ICAFE, Paola Rodriguez from BAC, Gemma Fàbrega and Gaby Morales from Cafeto Santos, and Jodi Mansbach from Insyte Partners. Our passion drove us to start this project, with the objective of transforming coffee production in our country.
Why are we doing this?
What drives us to carry out this project, is the need of simplifying agricultural certifications, reduce the excessive use of chemicals, and meet the environmental requirements set by the European Green Deal. But more than anything, giving justice and being able to support coffee producers in Costa Rica. We firmly believe that this initiative will not only promote sustainable practices, it also protects our natural resources, and improves the health of our community. We want to help Costa Rican producers become leaders of environmentally respectful and sustainable coffee production.
What are we doing?
We are going to share some of the in field results we have achieved.
Starting the Technical Manual: We have created a plan to develop a technical manual that will guide the coffee producers in regenerative practices. This manual is focused on an interactive process that makes the coffee producers one of the main contributors. We are currently carrying out practical validations to determine the effectiveness of the practices.
Regenified Certifications: We visited 10 coffee production farms with a American Regenified Agronomist. He performed several tests such as soil quality, water filtration, biodiversity, among others. With these tests he was able to determine the level of regenerative the farm is currently in. The producers of these farms are our partners in the process.
Commercial Strategy: We are working in an integral strategy to market regenerative coffee in a fair way. This includes sales, advertising of the product, and communicating what this is; with the objective of reaching new markets, and conscious consumers.
Economic Support: We recognize the importance of giving the producers a solid economic support for their efforts. We have performed detailed studies to determine the costs and inversions necessary for this practice. We have defined financial aid credits that will be adjusted depending on the needs of each producer. While still making sure they are viable in the long term.
We are engaged to keep working in order to promote regenerative agriculture in Costa Rica, and to create a more sustainable future. We are very excited to have you follow along this exciting process!
The Fundamental Pillars
Our main objective is to create a solid structure that backs up regenerative agriculture in Costa Rica.
Technical: Creating a regenerative agriculture manual with help of experts from various organizations. They will contribute their knowledge in agronomy, soil management, practices, and a lot more. This manual will be done in field with the contribution of the producers themselves.
Commercial: We want to find solutions for the marketing of said products. We are looking for fair prices, and adequate conditions for the producers. We will help with farm management, marketing, and financial management.
Social: We will communicate and educate people in the importance and the benefits of regenerative agriculture. We want to create a healthy network between producers, consumers, and authorities. With this we can have equity and social justice.
Governance: We want to create national agricultural politics, which is why we are working with with many national organizations of great importance in the agricultural field.
